AUC lecturers Hilla Dayan, Jonathan Gill and Janna Schoenberger invite the AUC community to a special Hannukah film screening of THE TINDERBOX. On 8 December, there will be a follow-up hybrid event featuring a Q&A with director Gillian Moseley, a candlelight Hannukah celebration and a discussion of the Hannukah tradition in relation to Zionism, nationalism and militarism, but also of liberation, resistance and hope, lead by the convenors.

Online film screening of THE TINDERBOX through 8 December

Visitors can register to watch a limited release of the documentary film THE TINDERBOX using the link below.  A BAFTA and multi-award-winning British (Jewish) documentary maker, director Gillian Mosely takes us on a journey to better understand Israel and Palestine. THE TINDERBOX does this by juxtaposing the story of the internationally-backed British Mandate of Palestine as told through archival documents and diary readings with the lived experiences of a range of Israelis and Palestinians today. 

How to access the film online

Once you register, you will be automatically sent the link and password to access the film to the email address with which you register. You will then be able to watch the film at any time online through 8 December.

Q&A with director Gillian Mosely, discussion on Hannukah & candle lighting ceremony: 8 December

Hilla Dayan, Janna Schoenberger and Jonathan Gill are inviting the AUC community to join them either online or in the Merian Area on 8 December for a Q&A with director Gillian Moseley followed by a candle lighting Hannukah celebration. Along with a mini-lecture by Jonathan Gill titled "Judah and Judith: Hanukkah as Meta-Miracle", they will talk about the Hannukah tradition in relation to Zionism, nationalism and militarism, but also about the tradition of celebrating their people’s liberation, resistance, hope and light in dark times in Judaism and other cultures.
